February 2017 Review

At the start of the year I published my goals for 2017. I also promised to keep you updated on my progress with them. This is the first update to see how on track I am, to keep my accountable and to show you how it's going. I had planned on breaking it down into monthly reviews for the first quarter of the year so you can see exactly how it all came about. However, when I wrote the January review, it got quite long, so I've decided to give you monthly reviews instead. Here is the February Review for you.

You can read the whole start of year goals post here, but as a quick reminder, here's what I promised. One blog post a week, totalling 50 this year; 3 niche sites up and running by the end of the year; all three credit cards cleared; save £1,000 and to finish the Insanity workout programme.

The Blog Promise

February had 4 Mondays, so I published 4 blog posts. Actually, there were a few more than that as I didn't count the January review and my Spice Week posts were actually 5 posts, but I decided to count them as 1 since they're short and all on the same topic. They are the reason that this review is being published on the 4th on March instead of the 1st. I decided that 2 in 1 day was maybe just a bit too much.

I started writing blog posts with my Freedom Journal so that I had 100 days worth of posts and I've now written them all in advance. Now that those 100 days are coming close to ending though, I'm seeing the pre-written posts running out and that's getting a little bit stressful. I liked seeing them all stacked up and ready to go. This review will be post 11 this year, which puts me well on my way to meeting my target of 15 in 100 days.

Making Niche Sites

If you remember from January, I had just started making my first niche site. So much so that I didn't count it. Now, I'm on 1 of 3. It's still super new and I haven't managed to do much writing as I'm currently in South Africa and have been for the last 2 weeks, but the keyword research has been done and the first article is there. There's pictures and everything. It's very basic and new and only has the one article on it for now, so I'll keep it a secret for a little bit longer.

The Money Stuff

Clearing the Credit Cards

This one hasn't made a lot of progress. The cleared credit card is still clear, but most of the extra money we had this month went into our trip. Obviously I'm still making the payments, but nothing significant has happened in the last month.


Just like with the credit card, there hasn't been any significant change here either. I've paid some savings into our wedding fund and a small amount into my savings, but nothing to write home about this month.

Earning £500

The niche site is still too new to have made any money yet. It takes a few months before Google let you out onto the web searches and then you need to try and climb their ranks through various methods. Usually, it takes 3-6 months to see any significant traffic and income, but I also know of a niche site that made its first sale just a month and a half in. Hopefully, mine will be just as good and will start getting results quickly.

Health Goals

Organising My Food

Ok, so this has actually gone backwards a bit. The last 2 weeks have been in South Africa where I haven't had full control over my food. Quite often we've eaten out and Anthony has wanted to revisit all his favourite places to eat from when he was a child so we've been going to those. Unfortunately, they were all burger joints!

It's also a country where the predominant food group is meat. Often, there are no vegetarian options and vegetables as an accompaniment to a meal doesn't seem to be common. His friends were very kind and cooked for us last night using as many vegetables as they could find in the fridge for me. I plan on revamping my whole diet when I get home and making sure I eat much better. It's also easier because I'll be starting from scratch since there's no food left in the fridge anyway.

The week before we left was also not so successful. I got sick and was off work for the week so there wasn't much cooking going on. As well as this, we were attempting to eat whatever was left in the fridge so that there wouldn't be anything left to go off. The result of these three weeks has resulted in a noticeable weight gain, though I have to say, my boobs look really good right now!

The Insanity Challenge

This is going to be my workout when I get home in a few days. I'm really looking forward to it as I've been very stationary here. People don't move much. No-one seems to walk anywhere, partly because there are some areas that you just don't walk through as it's not safe and partly because everything is so far away from everything else. I've realised since being here that Edinburgh is super small. We've been spending a huge amount of time in cars just going from place to place. So much so that my hips are hurting from sitting so much. I can't wait to get home and be active again.

February was a bit of a slow month. I knew this would be the case with our holiday so I made sure I prepared everything in advance. All my blog posts were ready to just post and the goals I set were small and attainable. Working hard ahead of time paid off. Even though I've taken a bit of a break the last few weeks, everything is still on track. I love how organised I've become and I'm sure my Freedom Journal is a huge part of that. I plan on having one for the foreseeable future to plan all my projects in.
